Sunshine in the Food Forest

We Prefer Natural Sunlight
We carefully observe the sun's path, season by season, morning to evening, to give our plants the light they need. We aim for at least 10 hours of sunlight, planting heat-loving crops in full southern exposure and cool-weather crops where they get morning sun and afternoon shade.
But in Florida, the intense sun calls for a different approach. We often seek dappled light or evening shade to protect plants from overheating. We also take advantage of microclimates, unique spots like south-facing slopes or areas near buildings that offer more warmth, light, or shelter. We're always working with the land, using what we have to give our plants the best possible growing conditions.
