We are creating Tera Preta

creating topsoil the natural way

After learning it takes nature 1,000 years to build just one inch of topsoil, we knew we had to speed up the process. By constantly adding biomass, we're helping the food forest thrive with rich, healthy soil.

We promote soil health by encouraging beneficial microbes, planting dynamic accumulators, nitrogen-fixing plants, and mushrooms. We often see impressive results within weeks. Unwanted plants are cut and left to decompose in place, further enriching the soil naturally.

Soil microbes, fungi, and bacteria are vital to healthy soil.

Planting Dynamic Accumulators

We plant nitrogen-fixing and deep tap-rooted plants to bring up minerals and support beneficial microbes, fungi, and bacteria. By leaving the soil undisturbed, we allow these organisms to build communities that break down organic matter into plant-available nutrients. Mushrooms connect with the plant roots through the mycorrhizal network, improving water access, soil structure, and even plant communication.

A thriving soil biome is essential for nutrient cycling, disease resistance, and growing healthy, nutrient-dense crops.
